Spanish Study Abroad Program in Burgos, Spain
The Spanish Spain Languages and Cultures in Contact offers students a language and culture immersion experience. The program consists of four weeks, during which the students take two Spanish courses at the 3000 level: Languages and Cultures in Contact and an Intensive Language course taught by accredited instructors from the University de Burgos. As a part of the Languages and Cultures in Contact course, there will be two weekend excursions (Segovia-Toledo and Bilbao-San Sebastian) and several local visits and multiple cultural daily activities in Burgos. Students will earn six hours of credit for the completion of the two courses. Participants must be at least 18 years old.
The City of Burgos
Burgos is a city located approximately two and a half hours from Madrid. The city of Burgos is a popular destination because of the Camino de Santiago, World Heritage sites , cuisine and the availability of numerous cultural activities.
The Academic Program
Students will enroll in two classes above the intermediate level: Languages and Cultures in Contact and an Intensive Spanish Language course. The first one is a UNF enrolled and the Intensive Spanish Language course will transfer to UNF as study abroad credit. The program Director and the Chair of the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures, in consultation with the International Center, will assign UNF equivalencies to the Intensive Language course taken during the study abroad program in Burgos. Both courses count towards the major and the minor in Spanish, and the major or minor in International Studies. The students' immersion experience will continue outside the classroom through family homestays, which helps them enhance their conversational skills and engage in the daily life and customs of local Spaniards. Families provide three meals a day(breakfast, lunch and dinner).

A faculty member from the University of North Florida accompanies the group throughout their stay in Burgos. There will be two weekend excursions, Segovia-Toledo and Bilbao-San Sebastian as well as daily local excursions.
The estimated cost for the program is $2700*. This price includes homestay lodging with three meals a day, fees and tuition for the Universidad de Burgos course, two weekend excursions (Segovia-Toledo and Bilbao-San Sebastian), and daily local excursions, international health and emergency evacuations insurance and material for the courses.
*The price does not include tuition for one three-hour UNF course, airfare and personal expenses. Personal expenses may included but are not limited to optional trips you may take and all personal purchases
