Our department is located on the second floor of Building 10. The main office, room 2425, is open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., EST.

Covid-19 Office Hours: Monday - Friday 9:00 - 1:00 and by appointment

The Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures cordially welcomes you to visit our main office on campus this fall.

Spanish faculty member and department chair, Greg Helmick, or Office Manager Julie Blaylock, will look forward to meeting and sharing information with all interested students, UNF colleagues and coworkers, and members of the community, about upcoming course offerings and our programs in Spanish and Hispanic Studies, French and Francophone Studies, Chinese language and culture/translation studies, and language studies in German and Arabic. During the 2020 fall semester, Dr. Helmick will be in the office on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays; he is also happy to arrange consultations by phone or video conference. Ms. Blaylock will be in the office on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and every other Friday. When either one is not on campus, they can be reached at the email addresses above.

Whether in person (M-F, 9 am-1 pm, or by appointment) or by email, we encourage potentially interested students to sign up to take a free online placement test in your target language. The placement test, followed by a no-cost consultation with UNF language faculty, will give you an idea of your best options for building on an already existing foundation in a language, and which course(s) would make the most sense for you to continue your language studies at UNF. We are also happy to help you, on or off campus, to plan or apply for (virtually free) retroactive credit toward the Spanish major, dual major, or minor; the French Studies major, dual major, or minor; or the Chinese minor.

Finally, we invite you to learn about Honors in the Spanish Major, the Certificate in Spanish for Professions (and plans in the works for similar offerings in French Studies), our student-and-faculty-led Digital Immersion (VR and gaming) projects in development, opportunities for research/and, looking forward to a happier future, our immersive six-week summer study abroad programs in Colombia, Spain, France, and China.
