Dr. Nam's main research program delves into the relationship between the media, technology, and society from critical and cultural studies perspectives. Within that broad framework, his research has dealt with such diverse issues as cultural political economy of the media, media diversity, international communication and globalization, and critical media literacy. He has published his research in highly ranked academic journals including Information, Communication & Society; Media, Culture & Society; Javnost-The Public; Internet and Higher Education; and Asian Perspective, among others. He has also published numerous book chapters, reviews, and an encyclopedia entry. Since he joined the UNF faculty in 2005, his research has been honored twice with a Top Three Faculty Paper Award from AEJMC (Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication) Media Management and Economics Division in 2006 and the James E. Murphy Top Faculty Paper award from AEJMC Cultural and Critical Studies Division in 2010. Prior to coming to the U.S., he worked with GTV, a Korean cable channel, for about four years as producer/program director.
