Laboratory Lecturer Position in Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at UNF invites applications for a laboratory lecturer position to begin employment in August 2024. This is a permanent position with opportunity for promotion. Candidates are required to have a M.S. or Ph.D. in Chemistry/Biochemistry (or related field), but a Ph.D. is preferred. Candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching. Responsibilities for the position include laboratory instruction, working with Laboratory Manager and Laboratory Technician to provide lab support each term, determining supplies and consumables to be ordered to support teaching laboratories, and determining that laboratory equipment and lab space are in good condition to teach labs. In addition to teaching responsibilities, service to the department, college, and university will be required. Review of applications will begin on 3/15/2024.

Degrees Offered

As detailed on our programs of study page, the Chemistry Department offers an ACS-accredited B.S. degrees in Chemistry and Biochemistry typically graduates 30-35 majors per year. The undergraduate areas of concentration for the B.S. in Chemistry are general chemistry, materials chemistry, and pre-medical professions.

Undergraduate Research

A focal point of the department’s direction is to significantly increase undergraduate research opportunities for students and thus the profile of the chemistry program. In recent years, the chemistry faculty have increased external funding significantly and a majority of upper-level undergraduate students now do research. There are several opportunities to display undergraduate research each year including the Chemistry, Physics, and Biology Poster Session presentation in the Fall and a university-wide research showcase (SOARs) in the Spring.

Facilities and Instrumentation

Teaching labs, research labs, and faculty offices are on the second and third floors of the Science & Engineering Building, which opened in 2004 and renovated in 2019. Each tenured or tenure-track faculty member has a research lab with fume hood located near to their office. The department has a wide array of analytical instrumentation that are available for both teaching and research. UNF recently established the Materials Science and Engineering Research Facility (MSERF), which houses a variety of instrumentation available to faculty in the Chemistry & Biochemistry Department.
