UNF Walking Challenge

History of the Challenge

Amanda Lovins in her graduation gown and her father Bradley J. Slama

The UNF Walking Challenge was founded in 2017 by Amanda Lovins as a way to honor her father, Bradley J. Slama who passed away in 2016. He loved walking and being active. Amanda created and funded this challenge to encourage fellow faculty, staff and students at UNF to get up and move during the week. Participants of the UNF Walking Challenge set their own goals, report steps and win prizes for being active. Beginning in 2018, prizes have been supported through donations made to the challenge fund each year by campus and community partners.

2021 Challenge

The 2021 Walking Challenge began on 04/05/2021 and will end on 04/23/2021! Remember to report your daily steps here!

2021 Rules:

Steps for this challenge are counted Monday - Friday each week. Steps taken anytime between 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM count and step reports are due by 12:00 PM on the following weekday. For example, steps taken on a Monday should be reported on Tuesday. The step report can be found here.

Each person will set a step goal at the time of registration, and report their steps daily using the link here. Winners will be calculated based on beating your goal by the highest percentage. Participants who exceed their goal by 200% more than two times will receive new goals!

This year, the first 140 participants to reach 7 miles in each of the three weeks (21 total miles) will receive a free T-Shirt! Miles are calculated using this formula: 2,000 steps = 1 mile.

There will be a trophy for the individual and team winners for this year's challenge that will be displayed in the Wellness Center.

The team winner will also receive up to $75 towards a team celebration!

Also new this year is the Lend-A-Wing Pantry challenge. For every mile walked, we will purchase $0.10 worth of food and items to donate to the Lend-A-Wing Pantry, up to $1,000.00. Each person's steps and miles will contribute to this overall goal - let's get walking Ospreys!
