About TurningPoint Clickers

System Overview

The Turning Point clicker system runs off of a single jump drive that operates as the receiver to collect student responses, a way to launch the clicker software and dashboard, and a storage drive for lecture presentations or polling content. It functions on radio frequency with hardware clickers and via internet connection with students cell phones, computers, or tablets if allowed by the professor.

The clicker system is compatible with both PC and Mac computers. If you create polling content on a Mac computer in your office, but your classroom is equipped with a PC, you can use the same software and content on both machines with ease.

Product Features

Polling Methods

Clickers offer the ability to facilitate peer instruction, take attendance, test for student understanding of concepts and more. Turning Point clickers offer many helpful features to engage students during class through three different polling methods:

PowerPoint Polling: incorporate clicker polling questions to their existing PowerPoint lecture decks.

Anywhere Polling: pose questions, without preparing slide decks ahead of time. This method is also useful to gauge student opinions or assess concept understanding "on the fly." The Anywhere Polling window stays on top of other open windows so that you can gather student responses based on information or prompts in Word, PowerPoint or another window.

Self-Paced Polling: administer quizzes or exams at a student's personal pace. While the other two polling options ask students one question at a time for a set amount of time to all students, self-paced polling allows students to progress through a question list at their own speed. Faculty members can set a time limit when all questions must be answered by.

Canvas Integration

The Turning Point clicker system easily integrates into Canvas, allowing faculty to sync grades from clicker data. Each session automatically creates a new column in the Gradebook or an average participation grade can be uploaded periodically.

Getting Started

Adopting Clickers in Your Course

Please follow these five steps to begin using clickers in your course:

1) Complete the clicker adoption form in MyWings.

  • Go to Faculty Self Service > Clicker Requests (Complete this step for all courses in which you plan to use clickers.)

MyWings Form

2) Include the student clicker in your textbook order to the UNF Bookstore.
  • FALL 2017 & SPRING 2018: Clicker ISBN: 9780998819129

3) Decide whether to allow the use of ResponseWare in your course.
  • ResponseWare allows students to use a mobile device or web browser instead of the clicker device, but requires some extra steps. A possible advantage to ResponseWare is a lower cost to students. Please come see us for more information.

4)
Include clicker information in your course syllabus.  Be sure to specify whether you will allow the use of ResponseWare. For language that you can include in your syllabus, please see the wording example in the following section.

 5)  Create a module with the Turning Technologies Registration external tool in your Canvas course so that students can register their devices.
