Kate Sanchez – Academic Major: Criminal Justice; Engagement Focus: Community-Based Learning, Alternative Spring Breaks, and Volunteerism

Kate Sanchez , a UNF School of Criminology and Criminal Justice graduate from Key West, FL, has enjoyed spending her time in Jacksonville engaging fellow Ospreys in conversations that promote an understanding of complex social justice issues. She has achieved this as a two time facilitator for the Hicks Honors College refugee project and as a two time site leader for Ospreys in Action, an alternative spring break program discussing poverty and homelessness, and farmworker's rights. In her senior year, she has taken this passion into the Jacksonville community as an intern for the Delores Barr Weaver Policy Center and as co-founder of Project S.H.O.U.T, a grant project aimed at combating the stigma of mental health by engaging middle school students in activities that challenge their preconceived notions of mental health and mental illness.
