Employers Seeking Students
UNF Career Services is an excellent place for employers to recruit new interns.
If you would like to offer an academic internship that will enable a student to gain valuable real-world experience and earn academic credit toward their major, please review the applicable academic internship guides below. The guides outline the criteria that is required for a position to qualify as an academic internship experience. It is important to note that ALL majors require that their internship be paid in order for the student to receive credit.
While there are no formal requirements for non-academic internships, you might find the following information for "typical" internships helpful in structuring your internship.
Hours: 15-20 hours per week. Some interns end up working more depending on the needs within the organization and the student's desire to earn money/gain experience.
Length: Our semesters run 16 weeks, start to finish. A 12 - 14 week range is typical for most internships.
Pay: The general average on pay that is competitive enough for students to consider is $10 -12 an hour.
Hiring Criteria: Typical criteria that employers consider are GPA, major, graduation date and completed coursework.
Organizations offering unpaid internships are welcome to advertise their position(s) using Handshake and other recruiting methods. However, it is the organization's responsibility to ensure that they are in compliance with all relevant state and federal laws, including the Fair Labor Standards Act.
