Welcome To The Career Nest

The Career Nest is a new career development lab for students who are still exploring their major and career options; making career decisions;  and changing majors. 

 

No appointment is needed,  walk-in hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.     


A Career Counselor will be managing the Career Nest throughout the walk-in hours and can help you with any aspect of your career development.

 

There is no time limit- you can work on your career development for as long as you like.  

 

This lab is perfect for students who want to learn about themselves, explore options, and eliminate the stress of making important career and life decisions.   

Career Development includes: 

  • Know yourself-- identify your skills, interests, values, and personality characteristics
    • Career Services has numerous assessments for skills, values, personality and interests
  • Explore academic majors
    • Career Services offers a "What Can You Do With a Major In...?  series of webpages and handouts with information on typical career paths for each major,  employers that typically hire these majors, salaries, employment outlooks, job posting links, and much more
  • Explore potential careers
    • Career Services has links to a wide range of career exploration resources such as:
      • UNF College Catalog:  lists each UNF major with program of study and courses
      • Osprey Maps:  puts the program of study and course into sequence for each year and highlights "mile markers" to ensure students stay on track
      • ONET- developed by the U.S. Department of Labor.  Includes career clusters and career families.  Match to your skills and match to your holland codes
      • Career Onestop- also developed by U.S. Department of Labor.  Features wide range of career information
      • Vault- a comprehensive career information and managment tool.
      • Career Spots: Professionally produced videos highlighting careers

Career Counselors

  • Career Counseling is a process designed to empower you with self-knowledge and an understanding of the world of work in order to make career, educational and life decisions with confidence.  Meet with a  career counselor for help choosing a major and/or exploring career options and determining career directions.   
  • Our Career Counselors have master's degrees in counseling, expertise in career development theory and hold certifications for the Myers Briggs Type Indicator and the Strong Interest Inventory career assessments.
