Bachelor of Science in Health, Exercise Science Track
The Department of Clinical and Applied Movement Sciences offers an Exercise Science concentration. This concentration culminates in a Bachelor of Science in Health (B.S.H.) degree.
Of major concern to society is the health and well-being of its citizens. Exercise Scientists are health care professionals that utilize knowledge of the human body's adaptive responses to exercise to address an individual's health, fitness, or performance goals.
Exercise Science students who wish to continue their academic studies will benefit from a well-rounded curriculum designed to prepare students for admission into graduate programs in Exercise Physiology or other Health Care professions. Exercise Science curriculum provides a strong foundation for students interested in an advanced degree in one of the Graduate Health Professions such as: Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT), Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), Doctor of Chiropractic (DC), Occupational Therapy (OT), Physician's Assistant (PA), Master of Prosthetics & Orthotics (MPO), Sports Psychology, and Pharmacy.
Exercise Science students who seek employment after receiving the undergraduate degree are successful in 4 distinct areas of employment:
- Clinical Exercise Physiology: health care based positions that incorporate exercise testing, prescription, and supervision for a wide spectrum of patients such as cardiac rehabilitation, elderly care, and weight management.
- Health and Fitness: develop and implement community or corporate wellness programs, wellness coach, and health and fitness programming.
- Human Performance: strength and conditioning coach, performance coach, and athletic exercise testing.
- Other Related fields: medical supply reps (pacemakers, artificial joints, medical instruments) and pharmaceutical representatives.
The B.S.H. Exercise Science Program is accredited through the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs and the Committee on Accreditation for the Exercise Sciences.
The 2016-2017 retention rate within the Program was 95%.

Bachelor of Science in Health, Exercise Science Track includes an internship component, so it is important to determine State Authorization of Distance Education and if you will be able to do an internship in other states, if desired. Please see the UNF State Authorization Status website for more information and updates. State Authorization of Distance Education is a complex and dynamic environment.

- MACX105, MACX140, MACX147 and MACX311 are acceptable substitutes for MAC1105. P (passing) grade from Credit by exam (AP, CLEP) is acceptable for the minimum C grade requirement.

Major Requirements (53 credits)
All Major, Elective, and Foreign Language requirements must be completed prior to internship. Any exceptions must have Program Director's approval. A minimum 2.0 UNF GPA is required prior to internship. Refer to course descriptions for prerequisite requirements.

- If you are considering a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT), consider taking prerequisites required for the DPT program.
- Hours previously used to meet any program requirements cannot be applied to this Elective area. Students must have a minimum of 120 total hours to graduate.
