Associate Professor

Chemistry | College of Arts & Sciences

Areas of Expertise

Dr. Mullen's research interests are in the overlapping fields of analytical chemistry, surface science, nanoscience, and biology. The interface of these disciplines forms unique opportunities to provide answers to the most compelling questions of the 21st century by exploring and exploiting the underlying mechanisms of biological processes. His initial research centers on determining the resolution and precision of replicating nanometer-scale features using soft-lithographic strategies and scanning probe microscopies. His long-term research goals focus on developing methodologies to visualize biological structures in order to generate biomimetic devices related to energy, which exploit nature's elegancy.
