MBA, Accounting Concentration, University of North Florida, 2009.
B.S., Accounting and Business Data Processing, Carson-Newman College, 1983.
My private sector career included 12 years with Ernst & Young (EY), 4 years with CSX Transportation, Inc. (CSXT) and 7 years with Florida East Coast Industries (FECI).
As a Senior Manager with EY, I served prestigious clients including CSX Transportation, Inc., the PGA Tour and the ATP Tour. Serving these clients allowed me to develop extensive audit expertise including audits of Securities and Exchange Commission filings (e.g. 10-K, 10-Q, secondary securities filings, etc.), external GAAP based financial statements, other regulatory filings and computer auditing.
While at CSXT I held the position of Assistant Controller within the Controllers group. I was responsible for daily operation of 4 departments including Payroll, Material Accounting, Accounts Payable and Field Accountants. Also, during my last two years with CSXT, I was the project leader for the Oracle Financial Application team. This team successfully implemented, company-wide, an enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution using a large number of the Oracle financial and procurement applications. At the time of implementation this ERP served over 4,000 direct users of the accounting and finance systems.
While at FECI, I served as Vice-President, Controller, and Principal Accounting Officer. Our major operating assets were the Florida East Coast Railway and Flagler Development Corporation. My staff prepared the consolidated financial statements for inclusion in all Securities and Exchange Commission filings, other regulatory filings, and the Board of Directors/Executive team. Also, I managed the major accounting back shop departments for the parent company and its subsidiaries, as applicable.
Following my service to FECI, I entered the UNF MBA program to complete my graduate studies in accounting and finance. My desire was to leverage my adjunct teaching of accounting from Flagler College (2003 – 2009) to the university level by completing the required graduate level courses in accounting. In August of 2009 I completed my graduate studies at UNF receiving my Masters of Business Administration with a concentration in accounting.
Immediately upon graduation, I began teaching at UNF during the Fall 2009 semester. Since that time I have taught Intermediate Accounting II, Intermediate Accounting I, Principles of Financial Accounting, Fund Accounting, Controllership, and Internal Audit.
