Mr. Coleman was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. In 1967 he was drafted into the US Army. Following Officer Candidate School Mr. Coleman was commissioned and Infantry Officer. In 1969 he served in the Republic of Vietnam with the 82nd Airborne Division. He conducted combat missions against the National Peoples Liberation Army and the North Vietnamese Army.
Following graduation from University he served as a Business Location Analyst for Eckerd Drugs and American Multi-Cinema corporations.
In 1984 Mr. Coleman served as Vice-President of the Geonex Corporation. Genoex provided contract support to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Agency, the National Wetlands Service, the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and the Defense Mapping Agency.
In 1989 Mr. Coleman served as President and CEO of Laser-Scan Inc. LSI engineered, produced and marketed Geographic Information Systems on a global basis. LSI provided contract services for the CIA, National Space Intelligence Agency, the FBI, the White House, and all military intelligence services. System were also provided to the Israeli Defense Forces and Egyptian Intelligence programs. In his capacity as company President Mr. Coleman worked extensively in 12 countries, and to a lesser extent in 17 countries.
The University of North Florida offered and Mr. Coleman accepted a teaching position as a Lecturer in 2002. He has served in that capacity since that time instructing classes in GIS, Cultural Geography, Physical Geography, Economic Geography. He also introduced and taught The Geography of Latin America.
CCB Exemplary Teacher Award for years 2008 thru 2013.
On Campus Transition Program (OCT), twice presented an award to Mr. Coleman recognizing his 'Outstanding Commitment to and ongoing inclusion and support of the On Campus Transition Program Students'. 2012-13, 2014-15. Has accommodated OCT students since 2004
Has participated in 14 UNF graduation ceremonies.
Army Commendation, Bronze Star, Air Medal (+25 combat assaults), National Service (US & Vietnam), Cross of Gallantly, Combat Infantry Badge, Jungle Warfare Patch, and Airborne Wings.
