Adel ElSafty is an Associate Professor at the University of North Florida (UNF). Before joining UNF, he was the founding faculty member for the new civil engineering program at Florida State Uninversity-Panama City Campus.
Dr. ElSafty earned his PhD in Civil Engineering from North Carolina State University. He also holds Professional Engineering Registration/Licenses in both Florida and Ontario, Canada. Dr. ElSafty worked in the industry for 8 years before returning to the academia in a Bridge Design firm in Orlando & Chicago and as a Specification Manager in a British Construction Chemical Company.
Dr. ElSafty’s research interests are: Bridge Engineering, Fiber Reinforced Polymer applications, Structural Assessment & Rehabilitation, Durability of Concrete. There are 10 graduate students who are currently working with Dr. ElSafty in their Master’s degree with structures specialty. Dr. ElSafty has been teaching all the structures courses at the graduate level and undergraduate levels at UNF and FSU-PC. He has been offering PE review sessions for structures through ASCE & FES for the last years. Dr. ElSafty has just been awarded a National grant from the Prestress/precast Concrete Institute PCI-Foundation to establish at UNF the 1st Engineering Design Studio in the US . Dr. ElSafty also is the PI for 2 major FDOT projects on retrofit of bridges and bridge decks.
