Kayla Beckmann, a recent graduate of the University of North Florida’s electronic media program in the Department of Communication, was appointed producer of the new program “Void TV,” which airs at 6:30 p.m. every Sunday on WCWJ CW-17.
The weekly TV program explores Northeast Florida’s culture through sports, music, the arts and entertainment. It is the video companion of “Void Magazine”,
a free, full-color monthly magazine focused on North Florida’s culture.
Beckmann, 23, is an Atlantic Beach native. While at UNF, she was co-anchor of “UNF Weekly” and senior reporter for “Inside Jacksonville.” Her reports earned her UNF Media’s peer award for editorial excellence. She is currently an associate editor of “Void Magazine” and an original staff member of the two-year-old publication.
“Having the opportunity to produce “Void TV” is a dream come true,” said Beckmann. “I get to create a show based on the city and activities that I love and am passionate about. The fact that I am 23 years old, fresh out of college and get to do what I do is a blessing.”
Beckmann is an avid surfer, competing for eight years, two of those years professionally. She won the U.S. Championship for longboard and placed third in short board in 2008. She is a 2007 graduate of Fletcher High School.
