The University of North Florida’s Youth Sports and Fitness Camp and Osprey EcoCamp have openings for the summer.

UNF’s Youth Sports and Fitness Camp has openings for children between the ages of 5 and 14 years old. The camp, entering its 27th year, has become one of the best children’s summer camps on the First Coast.

The camp utilizes the state-of-the-art facilities on the UNF campus, such as the indoor, Olympic-sized swimming pool, UNF Arena, the soccer stadium and the GolfPlex. The camp is staffed with 20 counselors, all UNF education majors, student athletes or Duval County school teachers, with a ratio of one counselor for every 10 campers. Each day offers something different for campers, including flag football, stickball, tennis, track, soccer, arts and crafts plus field trips every week to locations such as Little Talbot Island, Metro Park, a Suns baseball game, bowling and more.

Camp begins Monday, June 9, and will continue through Friday, August 1. Parents can drop off their campers as early as 7:30 a.m. and pick them up as late as 6 p.m. The cost is $165 per week per camper for the general public. The cost is $100 per week for UNF students, $125 per week for UNF USPS employees and $135 per week for UNF A&P employees. Additionally, there is a $10 supply fee per week, but if campers sign up for the entire eight weeks, the supply fee is only $60. There is a 10 percent discount for multiple children families.

Early registration for returning campers will be from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 11, through Friday, Feb. 15, at the UNF Arena. Open registration for new campers will begin Monday, Feb. 25, and runs through Friday, May 30, from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. at the UNF Arena. Camp registration will end on Friday, May 30. All registrations must be made in person.

The camp will be adding a new lunch option this year. For an extra $30 per week, a lunch will be provided each day, including bag lunches for field trips. If your child doesn’t participate in the lunch option, parents will need to provide lunch and the camp will provide an afternoon snack.

Your explorer will hike through the woods, go fishing, discover lake critters, swim at the pool, learn to canoe and visit many different habitats on the UNF campus. Thursday is Field Trip Day and will include trips to such places like Hanna Park, Little Talbot Island, the Jacksonville Zoo and more.

Six, one-week sessions will be offered, beginning Monday, June 9, and running through Friday, Aug. 1. There will be no camp July 7 through July 18. Registration begins Monday, Feb. 11, at the UNF Arena from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Groups are limited to a maximum of 25 campers, with a minimum of 10 campers.
