Direct Loan Counseling
Federal Direct Loan Entrance Counseling
Students who accept federal Direct Subsidized Loans, Direct Unsubsidized Loans, or Direct Graduate PLUS Loans may be required to complete federal Loan Entrance Counseling. Entrance Counseling teaches borrowers about what a Direct Loan is, how the process works, how to manage educational expenses, other financial resources to consider to help pay for one’s education, and one’s rights and responsibilities as a borrower.
Students may complete Entrance Counseling for their federal Direct loans at any time by visiting https://studentloans.gov/myDirectLoan/index.action

Federal Direct Loan Exit Counseling
If students have federal Direct loans at any time while at UNF, federal Direct Loan Exit Counseling must be completed each time the student completely withdraws, unofficially withdraws, drops enrollment to less than six credit hours in a semester, or graduates. Federal Exit Counseling is the process by which students review and acknowledge their rights and responsibilities for all of the federal student loans that they have borrowed. Federal Exit Counseling is mandatory. Failure to complete the requirement will prevent disbursement of future term financial aid.
Federal Direct PLUS Loan Credit Counseling
PLUS Credit Counseling is required if the U.S. Department of Education determines that the borrower has an adverse credit history and they have
- obtained an endorser (co-borrower) or
- documented extenuating circumstances to the satisfaction of the U.S. Department of Education.
