Learning for a Lifetime Program
The Learning for a Lifetime (LFL) program was designed to promote the increasing desire for knowledge among experienced citizens of the First Coast community. The LFL program allows Florida residents, aged 60 or older, to audit college-level courses with tuition waived.
To apply, complete the Learning for a Lifetime Application and return it to the Office of Admissions prior to course registration. Students may also complete our online application instead if they wish.
If you would like an application mailed to you or if you have questions, please contact Admissions at (904) 620-5555 or e-mail admissions@unf.edu, or write to the following address.

Frequently Asked Questions
Some common questions among LFL students are listed below. Click on the question to expand the answer.
-
Waivers are available to Florida citizens over the age of 60. Citizens using these waivers are restricted to registering in certain courses on a space-available basis and must register as auditing (seating privilege). Registration may be done in person or via myWings on the date(s) listed in your portal, normally the last business day prior to the start of the semester. No waivers will be processed after this date. The University will automatically pend Senior Citizen Waivers if properly registered in One-Stop Student Services. Waivers do not waive late registration, re-registration, or miscellaneous fees like lab fees.

From time to time students enroll in courses in order to gain a specific skill or to broaden and deepen their knowledge of a particular subject -- in other words, the experience, not the grade, is the primary goal.
When you audit a course, you gain that knowledge that you were seeking, but you don’t receive credit for the course. Of course, doing the readings and homework help you gain a better understanding of the subject matter, but you’re not being graded on your performance. Students in the LFL program may audit courses on a space available basis free of charge. Students wishing to earn college credit will be required to pay tuition and fees.

Unlike other degree-seeking applicants, there are no application deadlines for Learning for a Lifetime Program applicants. Applicants can still submit an application on the same day as they are able to register.
There is a specific Senior Citizen registration day. There is more information about these dates on the One-Stop website.

Basically, if it’s something that you’ve always wanted to do but couldn’t afford the time or money for a formal degree, now is your chance. Staff members will be available to assist LFL students in choosing and registering for classes.

The courses are college-level courses taught on a regular basis. You’ll likely be sitting in the class with a wide variety of students. From a traditional freshman student to an active retiree, the class is a good representation of our community.
Classes may be scheduled to meet only once per week, or as many as three times a week during a regular semester. Classes may start as early as 7:00 a.m. or as late as 7:30 p.m., and some are offered on the weekend or online.
