Book Club

The Book Club is a collaborative effort between the Thomas G. Carpenter Library and the Center for Professional Development & Training and is open to all UNF employees, including OPS and Student Assistants. The Book Club provides employees an opportunity to network with colleagues from other departments and to grow personally and professionally by reading, sharing, and leading discussions. Each term, Book Club members read a book and discuss it over the course of a brown bag lunch. Meetings are held from 12:00 p.m. to 1 p.m. in the Library Conference Room, Building 12, Room 2405. Join us for an opportunity to network with others outside of your department, to learn by reading, and to engage in dialogue. Water is provided.

The UNF Book Club will meet in the 2016 Spring Term

The book selection is "Data and Goliath: The Hidden Battles to Collect Your Data and Control Your World" by Bruce Schneier

With cell phones, online purchasing, emails, texts, social media, surveillance, and the Internet of Things, our personal data is being

collected, stored, and shared more than most of us realize.  The author offers us a path, one that values both security and privacy.

He describes what can be done at governmental, corporate and individual levels, while also providing tips to protect our privacy

every day.  After reading this book, you'll never look at your phone, your computer, your credit cards,  or even your car in

 the same way again.

The 2016 Spring Book Club discussion meeting will be held on Friday, April 8 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Carpenter Library, Room 2405.

Registrants will receive the discussion questions one week before the Book Club meeting.
