Languages, Literatures and Cultures

Familiarity with a language other than English is imperative in today’s global and multicultural society.

The Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures is committed to providing students with the opportunity to learn one or more languages at the University of North Florida.  From the most basic classes for beginners to advanced courses in literature and civilization, UNF language students engage in problem-solving strategies, including negotiating meaning, understanding and working within cultural diversity, and applying historical background knowledge.

The department offers small, intimate classes and committed faculty who eagerly welcome students needing guidance in their classes or seeking to communicate in the language and enhance their cultural and literary knowledge.

Students can obtain Bachelor of Arts degrees in French and Spanish, as well as minors in French and Spanish.  Additionally, the department offers courses in Chinese, German, and Latin.  A new minor in Chinese is expected to launch in the Fall 2011 semester.
