Shaw, Ed.D., CSC, is a Professor and Program Director of the Bachelor's and Master's degrees in American Sign Language/English Interpreting. She has been an interpreter educator since 1989, formerly serving as Interpreting Program Director at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock until coming to UNF in 2007. Dr. Shaw is actively engaged in research that explores similarities and differences between signed and spoken language interpreting students. Her primary research interest since 2002 has been collaborating with international partners to identify cognitive and personal characteristics that contribute to student success in learning the interpreting process. In addition to essential characteristics of interpreting students, Dr. Shaw has published in the areas of student support systems, service learning in the Deaf community, transitioning from language acquisition, and quality of life of Deaf senior citizens. She is a Commissioner with the Commission on Collegiate Interpreter Education and the author of Service Learning in Interpreter Education: Strategies for Extending Student Involvement in the Deaf Community, published by Gallaudet University Press in 2013. Dr. Shaw is an active member of the Conference of Interpreter Trainers and is co-editor of the Journal of Interpretation. She is also on the editorial review board of the Journal
of Community Engagement and Scholarship.
Suzanne Ehrlich,Ed.D, CI, NAD IV, is a certified
interpreter and an educator with over 17 years of experience. She has
presented nationally and internationally on the topics of e-learning and
educational technology integration for interpreter education. Dr.
Ehrlich’s research has examined American Sign Language instruction using
videoconferencing technology, integration of e-learning technologies in
interpreter education curricula, use of online protocols to improve
discussion in interpreter education. Her most recent research focuses on the
use of iPads to bridge interpreting services for post-secondary students.
Dr. Ehrlich is currently serving as the social media coordinator for
the World Association of Signed Language Interpreters (WASLI). Her latest
publication includes her co-authored volume, Interpreter Education in
the Digital Age.
Dawn M. Wessling, M.Ed., NIC-Master, is an outstanding graduate of the Interpreting master's degree at UNF (Class of 2012). She serves as an instructor and the staff interpreter for the EDIE. Her research interests include cognition in natural ASL discourse versus interpreted discourse, cognition during interpretation/translation process, interpreted emotional utterances, spoken English accent, second career interpreters and interpreters from outside the Deaf community, and language policy in interpreter education. She is a Presidential scholar and doctoral student at Gallaudet University. She is a veteran of the United States Navy, the wife of a retired sailor, and a native of New Jersey. Her hobbies include cooking, creative arts and reading Stephen King works.
Jackson, MA; SC:L, CI, CT, is an Instructor in the Interpreting program. She received her BA in Deaf Education/Elementary Education from Flagler College, and her MA in Linguistics from Gallaudet University. Mrs. Jackson is a doctoral student at the University of Florida. She has been a nationally certified interpreter for more than ten years, and has experience interpreting in a wide range of settings. Mrs. Jackson has also completed Masters level coursework in Interpreting and International Development, which led to her partnership with the Jamaica Association for the Deaf in Kingston, Jamaica, where she worked both on and off site to improve services for the Deaf community on the island. Additionally, she has completed extensive training in online teaching, including a Master Online Teaching certification program, and assists faculty in designing and developing online courses. She is a member of the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf and the Florida Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf.
Roberson, Ph.D., CI, CT, is Dean of the Graduate School and teaches
part-time in the Interpreting Program. Dr. Roberson, in his former role as
Department Chair, established the program in 2007 and co-leads student
transformational learning opportunities (with Dr. Shaw) to the interpreting
programs at the University of Ljubljana (Slovenia) and the University of Graz
Stultz holds a Master’s Degree in Deaf Education and has been an instructor of Deaf Education and ASL studies and consulted in the interpreting program since 2007. He taught for a combined 18 years at the Model Secondary School for the Deaf in Washington, D.C., the Missouri School for the Deaf and the Florida School for the Deaf in the subjects of science and drama.
Kelly Lindsey, NIC, holds a BS and
MS in ASL/English interpreting from the University of North Florida. She is an
interpreting practitioner and the ASL/English interpreting program assistant.
Ms. Lindsey is a Jacksonville native and enjoys surfing, traveling, and being
outside with her husband Blake. They are expecting their first baby in May 2016.
Brenda Rolison is Office Manager for the Department
of Exceptional, Deaf, and Interpreter Education.
