Wanda B. Hedrick
My areas of interest in research fall under three categories: language and literacy connections; strategies and interventions; and teacher preparation. The specific area within the language and literacy connections category I have examined has been the relationship between listening comprehension and reading. In the strategies and interventions categories I have worked with colleagues to examine current vocabulary instructional practices and to create new strategies to improve vocabulary learning and the design and research of a one-on-one tutoring program in reading. My teacher preparation category has specifically examined the ways reading teachers are prepared to teach. The overarching theme that connects these three categories is my desire to address the needs of children having literacy difficulties, especially in grades three and higher as they move into the demands of more and more content area reading.
