Cloud Computing
Research Group (CCRG) at UNF

Welcome to the Cloud Computing Research Group

Fidelity Distinguished Professorship awarded to Dr. Ahuja

Cloud
computing is a transformative approach to computing involving many aspects,
including large-scale distributed algorithms that run on massive datasets,
high-end computers residing in massive datacenters, rapid provisioning of
computing resources on-demand, as well as mobile and web-based applications
accessible from anywhere in the world. Cloud computing promises to
fundamentally transform how we interact with information and is changing the
way in which businesses, governments and consumers work, live, play and
socialize. Cloud computing brings to the table a very compelling economic
business model that is very important to large organizations. Applications of cloud computing are as
diverse as human resource applications, mobile applications, high-performance
scientific applications, and bioinformatics. The cloud even brings environmental
benefits since users share computing resources thus using these resources more
efficiently and because the data centers are typically located closer to power
generating sources the need to distribute electricity to widely scattered
computing resources is reduced. Clouds offer potentially unlimited
scalability and virtualization of resources so system management issues are
hidden from the end-user.
The Cloud Computing Research Group at UNF was established
in Fall 2011 and focuses on infrastructure and
performance evaluation and benchmarking of cloud computing platforms, cloud
architectures, applications of cloud computing, cloud middleware, and security
threats to cloud computing infrastructures. The research group is directed by
Dr. Sanjay Ahuja. Faculty, students and other individuals
interested in how the future of cloud computing evolves through research and
education are welcome to contact Dr. Ahuja. He serves
on the editorial
review board of the International Journal of Cloud Applications and
Computing (IJCAC). Dr. Ahuja and Dr. Roger Eggen are the lead faculty members of this research group.
