Here isthe jumping off point for students in my Spring 2008 Mass Communications Research classes. This core course is intended to introduce students to the basic research methodologies they may run into as working professionals or if they decide to go on to graduate school. Both quantitative and qualitative research methods will be covered. Pre-req: MMC3614.

This class involves learning a new way of thinking about information and how one creates and/or evaluates NEW information. Much of your education thus far has largely focused on memorization of facts and the gathering of and reporting on information created by others. This course will help you learn how to better evaluate this work by looking at HOW good (and bad) research is done, and it also will get you started on learning how to do your own original research in a competent way.

Below are links to the syllabus, the reading schedule and the article evaluation information. Be sure to read and understand all guidelines in the syllabus. The reading schedule may be adjusted during the semester, so don't rely on a printout. Check it online regularly.
