Here are some places to look forhelp in using words for writing and editing. More links will be added as we go along.

This is a good way to get started to improve your writing at your ownpace. You need to recognize your own weaknesses in writing and work on them yourself. The reason, the carrot to reach for? Better writing leads to better thinking and better jobs.

Sounds wild, but ChompChomp is a good place for self tests and good handouts to print and keep nearby.

Another good self-test site, this one specifically for journalists, is Newsroom 101.

Garbl's Writing CenterGary B. Larson's list of sites. This is pretty good. Check out grammar and writing links.
A good hypertextgrammar run-through on everything you always needed to learn (and quickly!)about grammar.

Avi Bass at northern Illinois has a good grammar page. Covers what journalists need to know the most about.
A to Z runthrough on Grammar from Rutgers
Here's a good listing of CommonErrors in English.
A lot of good help at this Connecticut community college site.
Here is a quick and fun test online to test your grammar skills.

A good place to start here is the LibrarySpot page
CredoReference bills itself as an online reference library, with all the standard reference-type books available for searching. Quotations, dictionaries, thesauri -- that sort of thing. You can now get only 30 days for free.
Merriam-Webster Dictionary
You can search a number of dictionaries at one time at OneLook
Roget's Thesaurus
