Newspaper Design

HOME PAGE >  DESIGN HOME
The Advanced Newspaper Design course is designed to give students the tools they need to present news and information effectively both in print and digital formats. Students will learn design fundamentals, typography, the grid, use of white space, color, XHTML and CSS for the web and alternate story forms. Each student will present a final redesign project.

Students will learn basic design principles, typography for newspapers, use of art (photos, information graphics and maps), page layout and overall newspaper design. The main computer program will be Adobe InDesign CS2. Some Photoshop use may be involved as well. For online design, we will use a free program from Evrsoft.com called First Page. It will be on the lab computers and it is an easy download at home.
