Course Work:

Calculator: I will be using the TI-83.You are free to use a TI /Casio CFX-9850GB PLUS graphing calculator, however it is your responsibility to learn how to use it. Class time will be spent on how to graph, plot points, find regression curves, etc. only for the TI-83. I highly recommend using the same calculator as I will be using this semester. Calculators with QWERTY keyboards or those that do symbolic algebra such as the TI-89, or the Casio FX2 or 9970G cannot be used in class or during an exam.

TECHNOLOGY: A graphing calculator may be needed for homework and in class exams.

ATTENDANCE: is required; parts of this class may be in a cooperative learning format. You will be assigned group work in and out of class. Repeated absences (more than 4 unexcused) will result in lowering your grade in the course. Students absent for university sponsored events or must make arrangements for making up the work they will miss before they are absent.

HOMEWORK: is required. Problems to be turned in are assigned in class. Reminder: I  suggest that a minimum of 3 hours of homework should be completed for each hour of class. Late homework will not be accepted.

General Education Outcomes:

MAC 1147 is designed to satisfy the following criteria from the Central Student Outcomes of General Education:

We will reach these goals by learning standard techniques of precalculus: manipulating expressions, solving algebraic and trigonometric equations and inequalities, manipulating functions, graphing functions, using the trigonometric functions, solving right triangles, and solving trigonometric identities.  The techniques you learn will be applied to solve various word problems and standard math problems.  You will defend your answers on quizzes and homework by showing the work and thought processes leading to your results.
