High school teachers are encouraged to attend.

The International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) is an annual competition for the world's most talented chemistry students at the secondary school level. Nations from around the world send a team of four students, who are tested on their chemistry knowledge and skills. Did you know that the US National Chemistry Olympiad Team is sponsored by the American Chemical Society? As a mentor (coach) for the 2009 team, she would like to take you through the selection process, training camp, and the international competition. It is really amazing how talented these students are and what a wonderful experience it is for them to compete at the IChO!

Biography: Dr. Linda Wood received her BS in Chemistry from Texas Tech University then continued her studies at the University of New Mexico receiving a Ph.D. in inorganic chemistry. Before entering the field of education, she worked as a research polymer chemist at Los Alamos National Lab and an analytical chemist at Griffin Corporation. She moved into education because she enjoyed working with co-op students at her industrial positions. Also, the summer breaks provide her opportunities to do exciting things like work the US National Chemistry Olympiad Team. She has been a mentor for the 1996, 1997, 1998, and 2009 teams.
