Beaches Fine Arts Sprint Triathlon Series
(0.25 mile swim, 11 miles bike, 3 miles run)
Ponte Vedra Beach, FL.

Since it was my first triathlon ever, I didn't know what to expect so
I just wanted to finish it in one piece. In fact, I don't even remember
when was the last time I swam in an ocean. And by the way, the sea water
tastes like ^@%#. (No Mom. I didn't use the bad word!!!) Now that I know
what to expect, I will try to reduce the time with the next one then... Back
to training again!!!

Although this is my second triathlon in this young season, I was still
nervous the night before. As a result, didn't get a whole lot of sleep at
all... Somehow I felt much more tire after the swim! On the bike, I tried to
relax a little but my lower back got tighten up a little. Therefore, I couldn't
run that fast and besides, the weather was warm too... Guess I need to
practice on my swimming then.

I crashed during a practice run a week before the race and hurt
my right shoulder pretty bad (but the bike was fine, thank you for
asking). As a result, I didn't think I would be able to heal
enough for the race. However, I decided to give it a go on Friday,
one day before the racce. The swimming portion wasn't that bad although
I shouldn't be in water with open wound--SHARKS!!! The bike portion was
fast the first half but then my shoulder started to hurt so I had to
get off the aerobar and used the regular handle bar instead. The run
was real hard because it was so humid and I ran with only one shoulder.
Therefore, I walked half of the time because I didn't want my right
shoulder gets any worst that it is right now... Oh well.

I must say that swimming in a lake is much better than swimming in an
ocean because you don't have to worry about the waves or sharks! Although
they have said that there are some hills on the bike portion, one of them
is high. I just barely make it to the top and you can hear all the gears
shifting from other bikes. It's not fun at all going up those hills because
you can feel your quads are burning--hill, hill, and more stinkin' hill...

No matter how long I have been here in Florida, I will never get used
to running in the humid weather. Just can't breathe...

I have a horrible swim and the water is freezing. (And for those of the
who cut across the buoys instead of going around them, big shame on you.)
Then I start to pass everybody in my sign on the bike and on the run...
Maybe next year I will wear a wetsuit just like most people there!
