1997 “ A JavaScript Primer”,
Syllabus Press, January, pgs. 38,40
(invited paper—inside cover description follows)
The January issue also
features a special computer science section covering the hottest topic today:
JavaScript. Java is making its mark on computer science curriculums throughout
the country. First, it has streamlined applications running on existing systems
and second it has entered many workforce areas. Markets from healthcare to
retail are planning to use the open networking approach of Java. And with all
this interest being generated by Java, it is pouring into the computer science
curriculums and reenergizing the learning process. We include a feature article
that covers not only the technical aspects of JavaScript, but how it is used in
a curriculum at the University of North Florida.

Selected
comments from recent students
1.
Genuinely cares about the
progress of his students.
2.
He was one of the most
helpful instructors I have ever had.
3.
Great instructor.
4.
Great lectures--explains the
impossible with ease.
5.
The course was not easy or
difficult--it was CHALLENGING.
6.
I have been a student in his
Artificial Intelligence class and I have had the pleasure to share
conversations on academic as well as social issues with him to appreciate his
full cultural knowledge as well as his keen sense of professionalism in the
academic scene. Dr. Martin has my
profound esteem for his availability to the student needs and his endeavor for
the improvement of academic excellence.
7.
You have a great sense of
humor and a "down to earth" attitude that I have not seen much of as
far as professors go at this university and which I find refreshing in an
instructor...I just wanted you to know that I think you have a unique way of
instructing and that I like it. To show
my appreciation for all that you do, I would like to take this opportunity to
present you with this rose (it was a graphic rose!).
8.
The faculty member who
audited my courses consistently complimented me on the quality of instruction.
9.
He knows the material very
well; he also tries to make this course as comprehensible as possible.
10.
Yes, excellent instructor, enthusiastic
person, fair and well lectured professor.
11.
Absolutely I would take Dr.
Martin again, and will indeed recommend him to everyone I know. This is because he is so helpful and does a
really super job of teaching the material.
Thanks for a great summer C course, Dr. Martin.
12.
Instructor did an excellent
job. Particularly impressed by his
helpful attitude and consideration.
13.
Dr. Martin is an outstanding
computer science instructor. He was
always available for questions out of class.
He has given me hope that I can actually obtain a degree in CS.
14.
Most highly recommend Dr.
Martin to anyone.
15.
Very well prepared,
concentrated on exposing students to a variety of tools and allowed ample
opportunity to develop them along their particular preferences.
16.
Very charismatic
teacher...Knew what he was talking about.
Encouraged students all the time.
