Hey y'all, Welcome to my Website

Our last day. Our last morning actually, checkout time is 11a.m.  We got up, did the morning thing, packed up the van and got ready to leave. Believe me, neither of us wanted to leave.

We had decided to take one last hike down to the first waterfall. As you can see, it was a bit of a foggy morning. On the way to the falls, we decided to take one last look on the side road where we spotted our first deer. We knew it was a very, very long shot . . but . . nothing ventured, nothing gained. As we rounded a turn, we spotted this deer in the fog.

I was able to change lenses and put on the telephoto. Luckily he was as curious of us as we were of him. And a 'him' it was . . a nice 6 point buck. What a way to start a morning and a day.

A real beauty eh?

We continued on down the road to the falls, and as we traveled the fog started to lift. One of our last looks from the cabin to the main park area.

As you can see, during the five days we were there the change in leaves was remarkable. What a difference five days can make.

Between all the rain we had had and a change in air temperature, the change in color was very noticeable.

So our quest for fall color was realized on our last day.

I am sure you will remember this view from our first day at the park. We as well as you were amazed at the change in color on the opposite hillside. I figure we had missed the actual 'peak' of color by a mere 4 or 5 days. But since this was Dot's first time seeing a 'northern' fall leaf change, we were both very happy with the change. I know you can't tell from the photos, but the air was quite cold. Cold enough that we each had on two T-shirts, a flannel shirt and a heavy winter coat. Added to that, the wind up the canyon was blowing pretty hard.

What a change, eh?

On our first day here, Sunday, this waterfall was non-existent. But after two days of rain, this fall came alive.

You can see this small waterfall nestled in the opposite cliff side.

The colors were stunning.

On the way down to the falls. Thankfully once we got into the woods the wind died down tremendously.

Here's Dot all bundled up.

Even the character of the trails had changed with the color change of the leaves.

It didn't take too long to work up some warmth even going down the trail to the falls.

The water in the stream had more than doubled in volume from all the rain we had. As they say, every dark cloud has a silver lining.

And this was our silver lining. As is pretty apparent the volume of water over the falls was noticeably increased.

Is this heaven or what?

Heading back up.

I think it goes without saying, our last day here was one of our most memorable.

One last photo at the park.

Dot was laughing at me because once again I had forgotten to turn off the time delay for one of our self portraits..

The 'cut' in the hillside is where the power line goes to the top of the mountain. I was at the top on the rocks when I took the photos of the cows in the field below and of Trenton.

We first went down to Trenton on the way to I-59 for the trip home. Since it was near noon, we also decided to have lunch at Mickey D's.  Then we got on the interstate, and I asked Dot how she would feel about cutting cross country instead of taking the interstate. Trooper that she is, she was all for that. Neither of us likes driving interstates when we have the option of taking back roads. So we went back to Trenton and I bought a road map and found a cross country route that would skip I-24 near Chattanooga altogether and get us back onto I-75 South. So, heading back up Lookout Mountain one last time.

Switchbacks and all.

Well, we both hope you have enjoyed our vacation along with the two of us. As Dot will attest to, I walked her little legs off. You have to remember she has to take one and a half steps to every one of mine. Poor 'vertically- challenged' little girl.

But we had fun, and that's all that matters.

Stay tuned for a trip on the Ocklawaha River. The what?

P.S.
