A look back to 2002. Look Back to 2002
On Saturday Dot and I had planned on going for a walk up on Big Talbot Island out to Black Rock Beach. That was the 'plan'. At work on Friday I had to go to the arena for an automation communications problem and found the place being set up for an event. The circus was in town for the weekend. As luck would have it, just a couple weeks ago Dot had mentioned to me how much she loves the circus. So I emailed her on Friday and told her our plans had changed and that I was going to take her out in public on Saturday. Dot didn't have a clue the circus was going to be at the arena.
Of course being a woman, Dot started up with the thousand question routine. "Where are we going?" "What should I wear?" "How far is it?" And on .. and on .. and on. I told her it was a surprise. And as some of my friends know, I can and do keep secrets. And then she pulled that other 'woman thing', "OK, I'm not going to ask any more questions". An hour later . . . "What are we going to do when we get there?" You women are a hoot!
Well the circus was fun. There were some very good acts to be seen. The highlight were these two girls from Mongolia who did a contortionist, balancing act. I think the University doesn't do enough to advertise these events. I'd be very willing to bet that more than half the campus didn't have a clue there was a circus going on. Such is life I guess.
Any who, if you are expecting circus pictures, guess again. No circus pictures. After Plan 'B', Dot and I had lunch and she left to do some errands she had to get done. So, I went ahead with Plan 'A'. I developed a bit of a back problem on Friday and after sitting through the circus, I really needed to go for a little walk to strengthen up my back a bit.
So I was off to Black Rock Beach. If you've never been there, then you are missing out on a unique piece of Florida. The access to Black Rock is a few miles north of the entrance to Little Talbot Island State Park on Rte A1A on the right side of the road. It's easy to miss since there isn't any kind of parking lot or big signs. Just look for cars sitting along the road. The beach isn't actually rock, but is a hard clay. It looks like rock but it is indeed clay. I had worn my new hiking boots to get them broke in some more which was a good thing since wet clay can be very treacherous to walk on.
OK, I'm all talked out . . let's see some pictures.
This is looking south toward the State Park.

There are numerous downed trees like this along this stretch of the beach which adds a lot to the scenic beauty of the place.

This is a pretty remote beach to get to.

Here's the 'rock'.

Neat stuff eh?

Walking north up the beach.

What a tangle. This was late evening with a setting sun. That's why the colors have a subdued look to them.

There were hundreds of raccoon tracks along here.

This is to show how changing to black and white and sepia can change the 'mood' of a picture. This is natural color.

Black and white.

And sepia. The subject matter really determines what looks best. I liked this sepia toned the most.

Like I said, neat stuff.

A couple more sets of color, black and white, and sepia.

There was a nice sea breeze coming off the water, which made for a nice walk.
Enjoy !
