Hey y'all, Welcome to my Website, courtesy of the University of North Florida

Well I hope everyone had a good weekend. This sure was a pretty one. On Saturday, Charlie Bear, his daughter Donna, and a mutual friend, Jimmy Carson went back down to Guana State Park. Dot was supposed to join me but had to beg off for some home repair stuff. I pretty much headed out on my own from the git-go. I was way ahead of the others and just kept on going.  I do like my alone time.

This is starting out at the boat ramp at Six Mile Landing.

It was initially partly cloudy but that soon gave way to a pretty hot sun.

I think this is an anhinga. Some people call them snake birds because when they are in the water, all that sticks out is the head and neck. They actually fly underwater chasing fish for food.

After 'swimming' they get up on a dry spot and spread their wings to dry off before resuming their search for food.

A stilt.

There weren't that many birds or alligators on Saturday. Odd.

Too 'crowded', um leaving.

I did see this young gator. It was past the baby stage and was about a foot and a half long. He was still too young to know to run and hide from boats though.

Another stilt.

Back to the gator.

Here you can get a rough idea of his length. They retain the vivid markings for a while.

This was an odd sight to see. On the upright tail section I can make out USAF. What was really odd though are the fully loaded rocket pods under the wings. I didn't know terrorists were hanging out on Guana Lake.

Here's a stilt nest-sitting.

It was a pretty day.

This was the only spoonbill I saw all day.

An immature white ibis.

This was a treat. Baby stilts.

Three of them.

So all in all it was a nice day on the water. This time I remembered to use sunscreen.

Next weekend is our outing with Kathy Westberry and her daughter Beth on the St. Mary's River. Let's hope the weather cooperates.

Enjoy !!
