The last day of the year and Dot and I decided to check out a creek near her house. The main reason for the reconnoiter was because her grandkids want to go out kayaking with us one day so we were looking for an 'easy' place to take them. This creek didn't work out as well as we had hoped so we will probably take them over to Anastasia State Park. But we did have a nice day on the water. I took this first picture in Dots' front yard. I love the color green.
This is on Trout Creek heading north. We could only go about a mile in that direction and got stopped by logs blocking the way. Too bad because it was pretty back in there.

Now you can see why it is called blackwater. Just about a perfect mirror.

And like I said it was scenic.

We saw a few turtles out sunning themselves. You can't appreciate just how big this guy was, almost a small trash can lid in size.

This one is balancing on his shell.

And this one surprised us since turtles usually hit the water at the first sight of humans. We paddled within 10 feet of this little guy.

A great blue heron.

Hmm. Have to check my bird book on this one. I think it's a cormorant but I've never seen markings like this one has. Could be winter plumage or mating plumage.

As always,
ENJOY !
