Here are some sand patterns caused by water. You either love them or you hate them. And there are those on my email list who fall into both categories. Personally I love them. 

Some of this sand is as hard as concrete, some is softer than cotton. 

This stuff is hard, very hard.

And this stuff is softer than cotton. I've learned to recognize some of the different top patterns to give me a clue as to what I'm going to walk on. This stuff can be anywhere from ankle deep to knee deep. And when it is knee deep you learn to take a step, wait until it bottoms, test the firmness, then take another step. We do have very scattered patches of quicksand down here. And that stuff is very scary. I have gone mid thigh in a heartbeat and skipped quite a few heartbeats in the process.  

The rest is pretty hard stuff.

Except for the water of course.
