Prague, Czech Republic

Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic is located on the Vltava River and connected by the Karlsbrucke "Charles" Bridge. Above the bridge is the Hradcany Castle (left).

St. Gall Church (left) between The Old Town Square and The Wenceslas Square provided a wonderful afternoon concert by the MUSICA PRAGA of Mozart, Vivaldi, Bach, Handel and Czech composer Antonin Dvorak.

Salzburg, Austria

Salzburg's unmistakable silhouette is dominated by the Fortress of Hohensalzburg, which has successfully guarded over the city for more than 900 years. Today, it is considered to be the best preserved Medieval Fortress in all of Central Europe. Relax and listen to the music that the city of Salzburg is so well known for...such as 'Eine Kleine Natchtmusik' that you are listening to now which was the final piece played at a concert in the Fortress. (left)

'The City of Music' is the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and today has festivals, operas, and theatrical productions. Salzburg is surrounded by breathtaking environs: azure glacial lakes, charming, timeless villages, luscious meadows, and the majestic Alps. An intriguing region with endless discovery.
Try brunch at nearby Fuschl Chateau (left) followed by a boat ride across the crystal clear Lake Fuschl.(I did!)

Vienna, Austria

Vienna is the capital of Austria and the a major musical center. Zubin Mehta conducted the a Mahler Symphony with the Wiener Philharmoniker in the famous Grosser Musikvereinssaal.(left) Just a wonderful performance with choir.

That was followed by a trip to hear local folk music in a stadkeller. (left)

Along with all the old beautiful buildings, there is even a new concept. (left)

Budapest, Hungary

Budapest's unmistakable attraction is it's lighted buildings and bridges on the Danube River and are the pride of the combined Buda and Pest. The Szechenyi (Chain) Bridge leads right into a tunnel under Castle Hill and the hugh Gresham Palace. (left)

On the hill, the Memorial to St. Gellert, with its falling waters, is a remarkable illuminated spectacle at night.

One of the few now-catholic churchs in Hungary is in Buda. (left)

Below is one of the Danube River bridges at night.

Background for this Great Age of Imperial Cities educational visit came from a University of North Florida class given by Music Department Professor Dr. M. J. Palmer, who accompanied our group and gave mini-lectures on historical walks.

Tour arrangements were provided by Norbert and Sandi Volkl of Alpine Discoveries, Jacksonville Beach, Florida.
