Presidential Professor

Welcome

Professional Interests

I offer courses in U.S. history and in medical, social, and legal history at the University of North Florida. I have authored books on drug use and drug policy, both in American and world history; the special problems of frontier environments, both on the land and in the air; and, most recently, about the culture war that has roiled American politics since the 1960s. I am currently working on a book about pleasure and capitalism in the modern world.

Education

I received a B.A. in English from the University of Kansas and a Ph.D. in History from Rice University.
