Program in
Conflict Transformation
Introduction
Conflict is omnipresent, emerging from many sources with intrapersonal, interpersonal and systemic antecedents. Responses to conflict can be highly enlightening and valuable for all who are experiencing and managing them. The Conflict Transformation Program (CTP) enhances the abilities of individuals and communities of people to recognize diverse needs and develop peaceful responses to existing problems. It also cultivates knowledge, skills and dispositions that prevent conflicts from occurring or escalating.
Processes studied in the CTP include compassionate communication, reframing, diversity enhancement, cooperative problem solving, forgiveness and reconciliation. Peacemaking and peacebuilding are clear goals in this program that incorporates multidisciplinary peace education.
Offered in the CTP are degree-oriented programs and one professional certificate. The Doctoral Program in Leadership offers a cognate, which is a focus topic and specialization, in conflict transformation. The Minor in Conflict Transformation offers a second focus area for students who have another area of study declared as their major. The Certificate in Conflict Transformation is available to all students, whether or not they are seeking degrees from this university. These interdisciplinary programs are available to students who are enrolled at the University of North Florida.
