Rider Bio: Brittany Evans
I started riding Western when I was about 10 years old and within a couple of years I decided to try out English just to see if I liked it. Well, the first time I jumped a fence, I was hooked. Seven years and an enormous amount of hard work later, I am a Grand Prix hopeful. Not very many riders reach this level in their career, especially at the age of 19. Most Grand Prix riders come from a long line of accomplished equestrians, so this is a great accomplishment for me to be competing amongst the “big names” of the equestrian world.
Horse Bio: Distant Thunder ("Saber")
Distant Thunder is a 12-year-old thoroughbred gelding. Standing at just over 17.1h, it becomes apparent how he acquired his name. I have owned him for about four years; we have grown and learned together, creating a horse-rider relationship unlike any other.
In the spring of 2008, Saber was rushed to the University of Florida Veterinarian Hospital for emergency colic surgery. This experience was the most petrifying night of my entire riding career, but thanks to the expert staff at the hospital Saber made it through the surgery and began his long recovery. Three months later, the vet issued him a clean bill of health and I was able to start getting him back into shape. Thankfully, Saber has made a full recovery and we are back on track to making our way up to Grand Prix status.
