Training Overview

Training Team

A sub-committee of the Teams will be formed to address the training needs associated with the Banner implementation. This group shall be known as the Training Team. The membership of this group will include the Project Training Team Lead, the Training Coordinator (new position), the assistant director of CIRT and representatives from the Technical, Finance, Human Resources, Financial Aid and Student Teams. Each Team member should expect to devote 25-50% of his/her time to the Banner project. Heavier time commitments will be required during certain curriculum and documentation development periods.

The purpose of the Training Team is to conduct appropriate needs assessments for all users of the Banner product, design curriculum, and develop training and support interventions and documentation that address those needs in such a manner that the users are able to understand and utilize the functionality of the business modules.

The Project Training Team Lead will chair this group, facilitate communication between the team and the Coordinating Committee and be primarily responsible for its effectiveness. The Training Team will meet bi-weekly and will report status to the Coordinating Committee after each meeting. Meeting agendas and minutes may be sufficient to report status. The official channel for communications will be email. Meeting invitations, status reports, etc., will be communicated by email. All members will access email with sufficient frequency to acknowledge invitations in a timely way.

The success of the Training Team initiatives relies on the positive commitment of UNF training resources, the support of the Steering Committee, the Executive Sponsors, managers and supervisors and the end-user community.

Technical and Functional end-user Training

Technical and functional training by SCT will occur between February 2003 and November 2005.

The managers of each central administrative office (i.e. Purchasing, Controller, Accounting Offices, Budget Office, Financial Aid, Human Resources, Admissions, Registration) will perform the required training for their own staff (functional-users). Alternatively, managers may consult with the Project Team Lead to outsource functional training to SCT, based on available funding.

Managers will work with the training team to identify audience needs and roles.

Managers will work with the training team and SCT to develop functional manuals.

Department end-user Training

Training for end-users will be performed by a group of selected trainers drawn from across the University and initially trained by SCT. These core Banner trainers will develop an extensive knowledge of the Banner modules associated with their departments, thus becoming experts within certain areas. The responsibilities of the UNF Banner trainers will be considered in addition to their regular duties and responsibilities, and they may receive extra compensation for this work.

End-user training schedules will be established with input from team representatives. On-going user training will be provided as needed in the future and coordinated through the Project Training Team Lead.
In order to train the large number of end-users that will have to be trained, UNF will utilize a “train-the-trainer” approach.

SCT will provide initial training for individuals identified by departments as possible trainers.

The Project Training Team Lead in consultation with the SCT Train-the Trainer instructor will recommend selected trainers to the Coordinating Committee.

The Project Training Team Lead will develop a method for training future trainers.

The Project Team Lead will serve as a resource for Banner trainers.

Training will encompass Banner modules and UNF business process appropriate to the needs of each category of end user.

Training will be for UNF internal end users only.
