Strategic Planning at the University of North Florida

Announcement from President Delaney

On April 17, 2008, the UNF Board of Trustees adopted new vision and mission statements for the university, as well as five institutional goals that will guide our planning over the next several years (http://www.unf.edu/unfinfo/president/missionandpurpose/missionandpurpose.html). Together these statements reaffirm our present purpose while expressing our future aspirations.  They also enable us to clearly communicate our purpose to the many and varied constituencies that we serve.

With these elements in place, we are ready to embark on the task of developing our next five-year strategic plan.  This plan will take effect in 2009-2010, replacing our current plan which we began in 2004-2005.

As a first step in this process, I have asked Provost Workman to chair the Strategic Planning Council Steering Committee which includes faculty, staff, student and administrative representatives. The steering committee will form working groups who will draft a plan with input from across the university community.  When completed, this draft will be shared with our Board of Trustees.
The plan will be organized around our five institutional goals:

  1. Cultivate a learning environment that supports intellectual curiosity, academic achievement, and personal growth.
  2. Recruit and support a diverse community of students, faculty, and staff.
  3. Support and recognize research, community-based inquiry, and creative endeavors.
  4. Affirm the university's public responsibility through civic and community engagement.
  5. Secure fiscal, physical, and technological resources aligned with the university's mission and values.

Once it is adopted by our board, the new strategic plan will serve as a guide for our resource allocations and for unit-specific plans.

We are committed to the belief that broad university input will make the plan a stronger document. Therefore, I would encourage each of you to take advantage of the several opportunities that will be available for you to participate in the process of creating this plan.
