Presidential Inauguration - February 20, 2004Information The
inaugural procession will begin at the Arena and travel a half mile through
the campus, led by the Jacksonville Pipes and Drums, to the Fine Arts
Center and the Lazzara Performance Hall. The academic procession has its
roots in religious processions that came to include teaching faculties
when universities were associated with the medieval church. The procession's order developed among institutions of higher learning in America. Delegates proceed in the order in which their university was
established, with the person from the oldest institution in front. Delegates
will represent dozens of institutions of higher learning, some from as
far away as the United Kingdom.The inauguration ceremony will be webcast for anyone who wants to watch and listen to the event but is unable to attend. The webcast will begin with the processional at 9:30 a.m., with the inauguration beginning at 10 a.m.
