Welcome to the University of North Florida

(photo of President John Delaney)Thank you for your interest in the University of North Florida. Whether you are a parent, a potential student, a donor or a member of the community, UNF is a place full of wonderful people and opportunities. I invite you to explore our Web site to see how UNF can become a part of your learning experience.

UNF is a young university – established in 1972 - and it is growing rapidly in size and stature. The University has expanded from a handful of buildings at the end of a dirt road to a thriving campus with five colleges in a bustling section of Jacksonville. Yet UNF retains its small-campus feel, helped by its location amid beautiful lakes and nature trails. The campus also is midway between downtown Jacksonville and the Atlantic Ocean, which adds to the appeal of its location.

The faculty, staff and students at UNF are engaged in projects that not only provide exceptional learning opportunities but also enrich the communities we serve. The Urban Professional Schools project was awarded the Distinguished Program in Teacher Education Award, a national award given to only one program each year. Students in the Osprey Investment Group manage a $600,000 portfolio for the UNF Foundation. Graduates from the Brooks College of Health consistently score significantly above the national average on licensing/certification exams, with nursing graduates giving UNF the top passing rate in the state in 2003.

In addition to its strong academic programs, UNF makes financial sense. The Princeton Review ranked UNF the 5th best value among public colleges and universities and Consumers Digest named UNF No. 7 on its list of best values for public colleges and universities in the United States.

UNF is on a journey to greatness that will be guided by our commitments to excellence, focus, relevance and accountability. UNF’s commitment to excellence begins with its students, but also recognizes that the cultural, economic and civic development of the region is tied to the University. We know that to achieve excellence, UNF must identify academic and professional areas of strategic importance, bringing us to our commitment to focus.

This focus centers on the high-quality learning experiences available to UNF students and the development of flagship programs where UNF can assume national leadership. UNF’s commitment to relevance mandates using civic engagement and research to address and answer community challenges. The last commitment, to accountability, is based on an understanding that we owe our students and taxpayers a complete accounting of how their investments in UNF yield remarkable dividends.

While UNF already has experienced some remarkable developments, the best is yet to come.
