  1. OBJECTIVE & PURPOSE

To set standards for publishing Web pages at the University of North Florida and to establish the responsibilities of the Internet Presence Committee (IPC) to uphold those standards for new and established Web pages.

  2. STATEMENT OF POLICY

The World Wide Web is an important medium that can and should be used to inform, educate, communicate and promote the University of North Florida to its internal and external constituents including students, faculty, staff, administrators, alumni, benefactors, legislative bodies and the general public. It is in the interest of the University that all units adhere to the highest standards of quality and responsibility in the development and presentation of web-based material while promoting a consistent image and brand identity to its constituencies. Therefore individual University units developing web pages which carry the University of North Florida name or logos are responsible for complying with all policies and standards of the University, all state and federal laws (See list at IV below) as well as the accuracy and currency of the information presented.

  3. STATEMENT OF PROCEDURES

All newly developed or existing Official University Web Pages (See definitions at III A below) must be in compliance with University Visual Identity Standards. Any new or existing Web pages that are not in compliance with the Visual Identity Standards or any Web pages that do not follow the approved Content Management System (CMS) template(s) must be brought to the Internet Presence Committee for review.

Newly developed or existing Official University Web pages found to be in violation of policies or guidelines will be notified of the non-compliance by the Internet Presence Committee and asked to correct deficiencies. Failure to correct deficienciesmay result in the page immediately being removed from all links to UNF Official University Web pages or removed from the UNF server as appropriate. Decisions of the Internet Presence Committee may be appealed to the President.

Members of the Internet Presence Committee will be appointed by the President. The committee will revise, update and create policies affecting Official University Web Pages and will review Web pages for compliance with University regulations and policies.

    A.  Definitions:

The University recognizes two classifications of web page ownership: Official Web Pages and Unofficial Web Pages.

    1.  Official Web Pages of the University shall include the University’s Home Page, related pages, and the main pages of all colleges, divisions, departments, offices and other units of the University. An official page speaks for the University of North Florida and its colleges, divisions, departments, and other units. Official Web pages must reside in the University's Web CMS using the IPC-approved template(s) and are subject to review by the Internet Presence Committee.

    a.  The University’s Home Page is the page that is accessed by the url http://www.unf.edu.

    b.  A Unit is an officially constituted college, division, department, center, school, office, program, or committee of the University. A unit is also associations including faculty, staff, alumni, student government and its agencies.

    2.   Unofficial Web Pages shall include personal pages of students, faculty, staff, and student clubs or organizations.

Web pages published be individual faculty members that present University curricula, are ultimately the responsibility of the faculty and are governed by faculty assemblies, e.g., the Faculty Association and therefore are not required to reside in CMS nor ust they use the IPC-approved template. However, web pages published by individual faculty members must still comply with section IV of the Developing and Publishing Web Pages Policy.

Advertising, Partnerships, Endorsements, Sponsorship and Acknowledgements: The University of North Florida is the owner of its Web Pages. Adversiting, partnerships, endorsements, sponsorships and acknowledgements are permitted on Official university Web pages only if the advertsidement's logo or name is smaller in size than UNF logo in the top banner of the IPC-approved template(s). Advertising, partnerships, endorsements, sponsorships and acknowledgements in the form of a simple listing of company names are permitted, but third party logos or other icons, graphics or photos must be approved by the third party in writing and in advance of being published on a UNF Web Page.
