- OBJECTIVE & PURPOSE
To set standards for publishing Web pages at the University of North Florida and to establish a Web Standards Committee to uphold those standards for new and established Web pages.
- STATEMENT OF POLICY
The World Wide Web is an important medium that can and should be used to inform, educate, communicate and promote the University of North Florida to its internal and external constituents including students, faculty, staff, administrators, alumni, benefactors, legislative bodies and the general public. It is in the interest of the University that all units adhere to the highest standards of quality and responsibility in the development and presentation of web-based material while promoting a consistent image and brand identity to its publics. Therefore individual University units developing web pages which carry the University of North Florida name or logos are responsible for complying with all policies and guidelines of the University, all state and federal laws (See list at IV below) as well as the accuracy and currency of the information presented.
- STATEMENT OF PROCEDURES
All newly developed Official University Web Pages (See definitions at III A below) must be reviewed and approved by the University Visual Identity Standards Committee to assure compliance with the UNF Visual Identity Guidelines, and the Web Advisory Group to assure compliance with the UNF Web Policy and the UNF Web Styleguide. Publishers of new and substantially revised Official University Web Pages have the responsibility for seeking review by these groups before the pages become “live” and are available for viewing by the public. The Office of Marketing & Publications will serve as the contact point to submit pages for approval on behalf of units.
Newly developed or existing Official University Web pages found to be in violation of policies or guidelines will be notified of the non-compliance by the Web Advisory Group and asked to correct deficiencies. Failure to correct deficiencies within 60 days may result in the page being removed from all links to UNF Official University Web pages or removed from the UNF server as appropriate. All decisions of the Web Advisory Group may be appealed to the President.
Members of the Web Advisory Committee will be appointed by each vice president to represent their division. In addition representatives will be appointed by the deans from each of the five colleges. The committee will revise, update and create policies affecting Official University Web Pages and to review Web pages for compliance with University policies.
A. Definitions:
The University recognizes three classifications of web page ownership: Official Web Pages, Academic Web Pages and Personal Web Pages.
1. Official Web Pages of the University shall include the University’s Home Page, related pages, and the main pages of all colleges, divisions, departments, and other units of the University. An official page speaks for the University of North Florida and its colleges, divisions, departments, and other units.a. The University’s Home Page is the page that is accessed by the url http://www.unf.edu/.
b. A Unit is an officially constituted college, division, department, program, or committee of the University including faculty, employee, student government, and alumni associations.
2. Academic Web Pages are pages that present information relating to University curricula. Academic Web Pages do NOT present the University Catalog, the University Course Schedule Booklet, or other documents that fall within the definition of an Official University Pages.
Academic Web Pages consist of all curriculum materials not on Official University Pages. Examples of Academic Web Pages include, but are not limited to: course outlines, course schedules, course syllabi, course handouts, learning activities, assignment sheets, on-line textbooks, quizzes, and other course materials including multimedia materials, and discussion group transcripts.
Publishers of Academic Web Pages may be individual faculty members, a group of faculty members, academic departments, academic units (e.g., special programs), and Academic Affairs. Since Academic Web Pages present University curricula, these pages are ultimately the responsibility of the faculty and governed by faculty assemblies, e.g., the Faculty Association.
3. Personal Web Pages shall include personal pages of students, faculty, staff, and officially recognized student clubs or organizations (with the exception of the Student Government Association). These individuals and groups are encouraged to publish on the WWW in accordance with the policies and guidelines.
- APPLICABLE RULES AND POLICIES
Official, Academic, and Personal Web Pages must comply with the University’s Computer and Network Use Policy [i.e., the pages must comply with all applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, including, but not limited to copyright, trademark and licensing laws, commercial discrimination (Chapter 540, F.S.), the Florida Computer Crimes Act (Chapter 815, F.S.), State obscenity laws (Chapter 847, F.S.), and all Florida Board of Education and University rules, policies, and procedures. Existing University policies applicable to the use of computing and information technology resources, University logos, trademarks, and other indicia of the University, and standards of behavior (e.g., sexual harassment policy, disruptive behavior, academic integrity code, use of campus facilities, student conduct code, personnel rules and policies) are incorporated in this policy by reference] .
