MARKS OF EXCELLENCE
*Student body enrollment includes 93 Achievement, National Merit and Hispanic scholars, which is an increase over last year.

athways to Success, a $10 million scholarship initiative started in 1996, offers high school seniors from inner-city neighborhoods an opportunity to complete a college education and improve their quality of life. The public-private partnership initiatives has been hailed as a vital component in the city's efforts to expand educational opportunities for Jacksonville's youth.

*UNF was recently listed among the top 100 in the United States according to the The Student Guide to America's 100 Best College Buys, compiled by Institutional research & Evaluation, Inc.
*The 95,000-square-foot University Center was completed in late 1998. The Center serves as a dedicated facility for the Division of Continuing Education and as an educational center, offering more conference and meeting space than any other conference facility in the State University System.
*UNF sociology major Elaine Reynolds became the University's first Truman scholar in 1998. She was one of 75 students in the United States and the only student from a Florida university to win the prestigious scholarship.
*UNF is home to the Institute of Police Technology and Management, one of the
premier police training organizations in the nation, which annually trains more than 12,000 law enforcement officers.
*UNF boasts four team National Championships - men's golf NAIA Champions in 1991 & 1993, women's tennis NAIA Champions in 1986 and women's tennis NCAA Division II Champions in 1994. The University features nationally ranked teams in baseball, men's and women's tennis and cross country, and women's volleyball, which compete in the Peach Belt Conference.
COLLEGE OF DISTINCTION
ARTS AND SCIENCES
*Recent grant awards totaling more than $1.2 million from prestigious sources such as the National Science Foundation and the National Endowment for the Humanities, provide excellent opportunities for creativity and discovery by faculty and students The UNF Jazz Combo was chosen Best Jazz Group in Down Beat magazine's student music awards competition in 1998.
BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION
*The College of Business Administration at UNF, operating from a state-of-the-art, high-tech $7.8 million facility, offers the area's only nationally accredited undergraduate and graduate business degree programs, and the area's first fully accredited weekend MBA program.    Two new fields of study --financial services and international business-- are now available to better serve the growing needs of the North Florida region.
EDUCATION AND HUMAN SERVICES
*The College is accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education, one of only 12 teacher education programs in Florida to hold this distinction. Recent grants and gifts include support from the Arthur Vining Davis Foundations to establish an urban professional development high school and a three-year grant from the DeWitt Wallace Reader's Digest Foundation for revision of the School Counseling program.

COMPUTING SCIENCES AND ENGINEERING
*New programs in civil and mechanical engineering will begin in the year 2000 and 2001, respectively Electrical engineering and computer science undergraduate programs are nationally accredited by discipline specific agencies.
HEALTH
*Students are prepared for successful careers with approved or accredited programs in nursing, nutrition, sports medicine/athletic training and health administration More than 90% of nursing, physical therapy and nutrition graduates passed licensure or registration exams and became eligible to practice on their first attempt last year.

 PRIVATE SUPPORT AT UNF
Contributions received by the university of North Florida in FY 1997-98 totaled $8,978,075, representing a 6.5% increase from the previous year. Of that amount, $8,896,075 was received through the UNF Foundation Inc., the University's 501(c)(3) organization. As of June 30, 1998, total assets of the Foundation reached $72 million, with an endowment valued at more than $26 million.

ECONOMIC IMPACT
The University of North Florida is among the 30 largest employers in the greater Jacksonville area, providing jobs to 2,000 full-time and part-time workers. UNF has an economic impact of more than osprey $250 million on the area's economy each year. For every dollar UNF spends, another $4.17 of economic activity is generated, according to a recent State University System study.
FACILITIES
MORE FACTS
UNF's scenic campus is nestled among 1,300 acres which includes a nature and wildlife area with lakes and nature trails. This beautiful woodland is used for scenic research and has been the site for the annual Envirothon for local schools.
Campus encompasses 24 major buildings with nearly 1.8 million square feet of space.
Osprey Cove, UNF's most recent addition to campus housing, has added 450 more beds bringing the total number of students living on campus to about 1,600.
Major projects include:
>The first phase of a $17 million Fine and Performing Arts Complex to provide office, classroom, studio and lab space for the Communication & Visual Arts and Music programs will begin construction in late 1999;

> A new $7 million parking garage completed in the fall of 1999, that
provides approximately 1,000 new spaces on campus;
>A 9,200 seat soccer/track stadium is set to open in 2001.
UNF Library
 
The Division of Continuing Education, which provides more than 500 programs to the community each year, enrolled 13,422 participants in 1998.
The 285-acre First Coast Technology Park adjoins the main campus and is available for commercial development.
The Small Business Development Center assists entrepreneurs with one-on-one assistance and business workshops. During the last fiscal year, 2,200 individual clients were served while 2,700 participated in various business workshops.
The National Alumni Association maintains contact with our 30,000 alumni with five regional chapters in the Southeast and recently established its first international chapter in Belize.
