THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH FLORIDA 1999-2000 FACT SHEET
The University of North Florida is proud to serve the Jacksonville area with high quality undergraduate and graduate academic programs and community partnerships. As one of 10 publicly funded institutions of higher education in Florida, we offer 69 undergraduate and graduate degree programs to more than 12,000 students. Just as UNF continues to grow physically, with construction programs totaling millions of dollars and hundreds of thousands of square feet planned for the next few years, the university continues to strengthen its academic programs by recruiting highly qualified professors who work directly with graduate and undergraduate students on research-based projects. I am proud to say that UNF plays a unique and vital role in the intellectual, cultural, economic and civic development of Florida's northeast region.

MARKS OF EXCELLENCE

The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools re-accredited the University of North Florida, giving the institution high marks for quality of academic programs.

Construction began in 1999 on a $22 million, 105,000 square-foot Fine Arts Center. The new center, scheduled for completion in the summer of 2001, will provide a strong link between UNF and the Jacksonville area community.

UNF music professor Bunky Green was named to the International Association of Jazz Educators Hall of Fame. Professor Green is part of a music program that has received national and international recognition, including an invitation to play in the prestigious North Shore Jazz Festival in The Hague, Holland, in the summer of 2000.

The UNF's Students In Free Enterprise team, part of the College of Business Administration, won its third straight regional title before taking the national title and placing among the top 20 teams in the world during competition in the summer of 1999.

UNF's mock trial team defeated Ivy League and land grant universities on its way to national prominence last year.
Students in the Department of Construction Management placed first in the Associated Schools of Construction Southeast Regional competing against major research universities.
USA Today named Elaine Reynolds to the All-USA College Academic first team in 1999, a year after Reynolds became UNF's first Truman Scholar, one of only 75 students in the U.S. and the only student in Florida to receive the honor.

Florida Leader magazine listed the 1999-2000 UNF Student Government Association among the top three of its kind within the State University System.

The UNF baseball team reached the top spot in NCAA Division II national rankings in 1999, ending the season ranked No. 7 and won the Peach Belt Athletic Conference. The men's tennis team finished ninth in the Division II national rankings, and the men's golf team finished No. 14 in the nation in NCAA Division I poll.

The UNF athletic program has produced four national championships, including the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics men's golf title in 1991 and 1993; the NAIA women's tennis championship in 1986, and the NCAA Division II women's tennis title in 1994.
