Marks of Excellence
The
Urban Professional Development Schools project received the 2003 Distinguished
Program in Teacher Education Award, a national award given to only
one program a year by the Association of Teacher Educators.
- Archbishop Desmond
Tutu spent the spring 2003 semester at UNF teaching a credit course
for students and non-credit mini courses for the community.
- The Lady Ospreys
basketball team won the South Atlantic Regional championship.
- The Counselor
Education program was among six programs nationally to be honored
by The Education National Trust for its work in changing school counseling
programs.
- The Resident
Student Association was named the most improved resident association
for creating area councils within the association by the Florida Association
of Residence Halls.
- The Hayt Golf
Learning Center and the Hope Fund, a program in which journalism students
write about needy families for the Florida Times-Union to raise money
for charities, both took honors in the annual “Best of Florida
Schools” competition sponsored by Florida Leader magazine.
- The Coggin College
of Business opened the State Farm Companies Foundation Center for
Financial Research, which provides the technological tools to access
and analyze financial data.
- Of the Great
100 Nurses of Northeast Florida named in 2003, 35 are College of Health
alumni, five of whom are faculty members.
- The Division
of Sponsored Research and Training recorded awards totaling $15.4
million in 2002-03, a 15 percent increase in money over the previous
year. The division has seen research money grow an average of $2.6
million each year since 1998-99, when it totaled a little more than
$5 million.
