University of North Florida Marks of Excellence
UNF is listed among
America's 100 Best College Buys for 2002-2003 by Institutional Research
& Evaluation Inc. from among 1,485 colleges and universities.
The UNF Jazz Ensemble
released a critically acclaimed CD, "Things to Come" and made
its second appearance at the North Sea Jazz Festival in the Netherlands
in 2002.
For the third time
in the past five years, UNF had one of the 80 students nationwide named
a Truman scholar.
The University's
Coggin College of Business has launched a student and faculty exchange
program with the Beijing Second Foreign Language University in China.
Florida Leader
magazine named UNF's campus as the best looking campus among state universities
in its annual "Best of Florida Schools" issue. The magazine
also named UNF Student Government as first runner-up in the best student
government category.
Construction on
the $22.6 million, 133,000-square-foot Science and Engineering Building
began in 2001 and is scheduled for completion in 2003. The new laboratory
facilities will greatly enhance UNF's chemistry, physics, engineering
and construction management programs, as well as provide a strong link
between UNF and the Northeast Florida business community.
The University opened
the Hayt Golf Learning Center in 2002. The center includes a driving
range, three regulation distance golf holes, an 8,000-square-foot educational/environmental
facility, plus a private practice area for the UNF golf team.
The University Center
is a 95,000-square-foot conference center utilized by the surrounding
metropolitan area and UNF for meetings, seminars, trade shows, conferences
and social gatherings. Over the last year, the UC has hosted a record
5,500 event activities with more than 190,000 attendees.
