Janet Owens, the VP of Governmental Affairs attended the meeting to update the committee on budget issues relating to the legislative process and how the Budget Advisory Committee can assist in that process.
Ms. Owens updated the committee on what her role at UNF is and with whom she interfaces with in both the community and Tallahassee.
Ms. Owens discussed the 2017 UNF Legislative Budget Requests with the committee. These requests include:
Additionally, the following PECO requests are being submitted for protecting and maximizing investments in facilities:
$ 5 Million (Recurring) for Culture of Completions & Career II
$ 3 Million ($2 Million Recurring) for Advanced Manufacturing & Materials Innovation
$ 2.9 Million (Recurring) for Coastal Science Institute
The committee requested that Ms. Owens send her Tallahassee Report to all faculty when she publishes it so that everyone on campus is aware of any legislative updates.
$ 6 Million for the UNF Infrastructure
$ 7 Million for Renovations to the Science & Engineering Building
$ 3 Million for Renovations to Schultz Hall
The committee asked Ms. Owens how faculty could play a larger role in the legislative process. Ms. Owens stated that she always welcomes faculty input and that if any faculty member has a project they would like to discuss with her they can make an appointment to meet with her at any time.
The committee let Ms. Owens know that if she ever needs to update Faculty Association on anything in more detail that her time at the meeting allows the Budget Advisory Committee would be happy to submit the information as an information item.
In October, the committee will be meeting with Dr. Tom Serwatka and Dr. Jay Coleman.
