Minutes of Meeting

Adjunct Affairs Committee Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at 2:00 PM

Location: Building 57,3rd Floor, Leadership, School Counseling, and Sport Management Conference Room

Call to Order:

The meeting was called to order at 2:00 pm by Elizabeth Gregg, chair.

Members Present:

Elizabeth Gregg (Chair), Carolyn McMahan, Linda Connelly, Adel Boules, Raphael Crowley, Jeffrey Bowen, Koren Borges, JoAnn Nolin

  • Approval of the Minutes:

    Minutes from October 21, 2015 were edited and approved.

  • Introductory Remarks/Old Business

    Elizabeth Gregg opened the meeting with discussion of meetings with Dr. Klostermeyer, Cindy Chin, Cheryl Gonzalez and others related to the topic of an appropriate protocol for recruitment of adjunct faculty. No common practice for recruitment or training of adjunct faculty was identified.

  • New Business

    Cheryl Gonzalez, Director of the Office of Equal Opportunity and Diversity was present and provided insight into how other universities, including FSU and UWF had addressed this issue. She also addressed concerns related to ensuring UNF policies and actions of UNF representatives provide for inclusion in the adjunct recruitment process.

     

    The discussion that followed included:

    • Current recruitment practices on a college and department basis
    • Identification of a protocol for posting advertisement for adjunct positions
    • Potential development of an adjunct pool
    • Importance of a process that addresses potential actions that could be considered discriminatory
    • The need for development of guidelines for adjuncts
    • Possible inclusion of adjuncts in the new employee orientation activity

    A motion was made by Elizabeth Gregg that the committee draft a resolution to develop an adjunct recruitment process. The motion was passed unanimously.

     

    Elizabeth Gregg and Linda Connelly will work with Cheryl Gonzalez in February to draft guidelines for adjunct recruitment process.

  • Other Discussions/Announcement

    Access to committee minutes is available through Blackboard. The minutes are located under the “My Organizations” section. It is located at the bottom of the middle column of Blackboard’s opening page. A draft copy is posted after each meeting an email will be sent to all committee members once they are posted. Please respond to Liz Greg or JoAnn Nolin with any questions, or corrections. Minutes are reviewed for approval at the subsequent meeting and then forwarded to the Faculty Association for posting on their site.

  • Adjournment & Next Meeting

    The meeting adjourned at 3:00 PM.

    The next meeting date: The next meeting will be scheduled for February. A Doodle will be sent out to determine member availability for a February date.
